Rhizobia invade into plant roots to form nodules that convert nitrogen from the air into ammonium which the plants can use, a process that involves complex molecular exchanges. In the rhizosphere, flavonoids released by the plant roots signal to rhizobia, which in turn produce nodulation factors (NFs). NFs are then perceived by the host to trigger the events leading to intracellular infection and nodule formation. Flavonoids as the primary determinant of rhizobial host range are of great research value. My study is try to dig out the involvement of the chalcone and flavone in nodulation of M. truncatula, which is helpful to further understand the important role of different flavonoids in host range determination.
